Lily Seabird’s sophomore album is the type of work that makes me feel so hopeful for the future of thought-provoking lyricists. A review in 2 parts with Kerri Harrington & Jason Tors from the LD

Kerri - The ten track album, Alas, is full of sounds ranging from whimsical musings to full blown vocal complexities backed by roaring guitars. The words are real and important to Lily, and in turn; they are also to the listener. This album is so incredibly easy to enjoy from start to finish. I’m on my fourth full listen and I keep hearing new phrases, vocal nuances and more. There is a ton of power and emotional complexity in this work.

Jason - I love albums that are a complete experience, this is a collection of songs that flow one into the next, its my favorite, going on a sonic journey. Each tune is a mini world and has its own physics. Taken all together it paints a picture of a great songwriter and sound artist on the cusp of launching into space.

Kerri - Track one starts so calm with Lily’s gentle and sweet voice, but opens up to a painful and darker  place when she starts pleading “Take It“ repeatedly.  On “Angel” and “Cavity“, two  of my other favorites, we are taken on a very gorgeous journey, interspersed with keys and even some inspired saxophone playing by Lily.

Jason - The sonic details and asymmetrical flourishes that reward you on the 3rd, 4th, 5th listen are what really do it for me. On the face of it, we are listening to contemporary indie rock, rewards go to folks that stick with it and keep this album on repeat.

Kerri - With each track, the album continues to draw you in deeper and deeper. The lyrics are personal and relatable. The noisy guitars come in at just the perfect time. Lily Seabird has an ability to bounce between indie grunge, pop and folk seamlessly. Her sound feels recognizable, while still being so distinctly her own.

We have played Lily Seabird tunes on our radio show, “Daydream Nation”, on NCCR during the last year. We have both discussed how this is one of our favorite and most anticipated albums of 2024. Knowing that Lily Seabird is based in Burlington VT, we asked personally if she’d add Littleton and become the last stop on her winter tour. She said yes! Wow, were we blown away!

She will be playing the Loading Dock stage on Sunday, February 18th at 7P. Make sure you come to this show. We have a feeling that we are going to see Lily Seabird on much bigger stages in the very near future.
